GLOVERSVILLE - Health care workers, labor unions and community supporters will hold a candlelight vigil today at Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home to call attention to contract negotiations between the hospital and a union representing more than 375 workers there.
The vigil will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on East State Street, a news release said.
There will be an opening prayer by Craig Jones, pastor of Amsterdam First Baptist Church.
The union, 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, has been negotiating with the hospital for nine months. The last contract expired June 30.
The union workers include certified nursing assistants, nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, laboratory and radiation technicians, and dietary, housekeeping, central supply, pharmacy and maintenance employees.
"The purpose of this event is to inform the community about what's at stake in these negotiations and why they are important to all residents in the hospital and nursing home's service area," the news release said.
More on the vigil will appear in Friday's edition of The Leader-Herald.
