Apparently, Swedish meatballs aren?t the only culinary yummy-ness to come out of the seemingly perfect European nation. No, no, no, waffles are the name of the game, and the American Swedish Historical Museum will be hosting Swedish Waffle Day on Saturday, March 25, from 11 AM ? 2 PM, where freshly baked Swedish waffles will be served along with whipped cream, strawberry jam, and coffee.
The reason for this sweet sm?rg?sbord? The tradition of eating waffles on the Christian holiday Annunciation Day (every March 25), or?V?rfrudagen,?comes from the mix up of the Swedish word for the holiday, with the word?V?ffeldagen,?meaning Waffle Day. This misunderstanding caused Swedes to brush off their waffle irons and strawberry jam and make waffles the meal of the day.
Admission for the event is $10, which will get you admission into the museum, all of the waffles your tummy desires, and a beverage. You can either pay at the door or register online here. Choice is yours, either way, we?ll be sure to see you there, in all your waffle-stuffed glory.
